Branch History  The Village of Metamora was an active bookmobile stop for the Lapeer County Library for many years prior to 1971, at which time the Metamora Branch was established in a small storefront building across the street from the old location on Oak Street.

In January 1995, a group of interested township and village residents formed the Metamora Library Building Committee.  With the approval of the Lapeer County Library Board, the committee began a campaign to raise money to purchase and remodel the building immediately North of the old library.  The old building, with only 400 square feet of usable space, had become too small to house the growing need for an updated book collection or to conduct an uninterrupted children's program held during library hours.

With the goal of a new library in mind, the Building Committee began their fundraising.  They guided the community to meet and exceed their pledge contribution of $56,000 by hosting fund raisers, writing several grants and receiving several donations from local businesses and organizations.  Early in 1998 the people of Metamora made their new library dream a reality with 2,800 square feet for a 'children's corner', barrier-free design, space for library or community group meetings, more shelving for additional books, comfortable study areas, and four computer stations that includes two Internet stations, a word processor, and a children's multimedia computer.

In January 2003, the Lapeer County Library System underwent a restructuring transition and changed its name to Lapeer District Library.
