Residency

Anyone can use the Lapeer District Library locations regardless of his or her residence.  Only residents of Lapeer County can borrow materials from the library without charge with two exceptions:

Patrons Under 18

A signature of a parent or guardian is required for those who are under 18 years of age.  A driver's license or verification of name and address of the parent or guardian is required. A consent form must be completed and returned to the library before the child's card can be used. A release form must be completed by parent or guardian of children under 18 each time they request information about the child's account.

Loan Periods

Most materials may be checked out for a period of three weeks. A book is renewable, unless on hold for another patron. Videos may be checked out for one week and renewed for one day, unless on hold for another patron.

Please renew your items before they become overdue to prevent charges to your account.  Items may be renewed online, by telephone, or in person at any Lapeer District Library location.

New holds policy effective May 1, 2010

Patrons picking up items on hold must use the library card that the items are reserved under.

Holds may be placed on any items that are currently checked out. Holds and overdue notices can be sent to your e-mail address upon your request. Items not available through our consortium (Valley Library Consortium), may be reserved through MelCat, the statewide catalog system.  Items may also be inter-loaned from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan [ILL].  The loan period on ILL materials is established by the lending library. ILL materials are NOT renewable.

There is a limit of 5 DVDs/videos per library card for all patrons.

Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Materials

Lapeer District Library has a daily charge of .10 per item, per day, for overdue Lapeer District Library materials.  There is a one day grace period (effective January 2, 2009) for overdue Lapeer District Library items.  There is a charge for lost and damaged materials.

FIRST NOTICE of most materials is sent after the item is two weeks overdue; notices on videos are sent after three days overdue. FINAL NOTICE is sent on most materials after four weeks overdue; notices on videos are sent after one week overdue. Items approximately six weeks overdue will be given status of LOST.  At this time a $2.00 processing fee per item will be charged.  When an item goes to the status of LOST, it may be referred to a COLLECTION AGENCY and an additional $10.00 plus the replacement cost of each book is added to the borrower's account. If items are returned, the $2.00 processing fee per item, any fines, and the $10.00 collection agency fee will still be due, however, the replacement cost of each book will be removed from the borrower's account. If you have paid for lost items, and they are found, they are your property, refunds will not occur.

NOTE:  The library is not responsible for any equipment damage that may be caused by the use of library videos, audios, CDs, or DVDs
