For 60 years, the Fire Horse was a prominent feature in America. When the alarm sounded, the horses galloped out of the fire station, followed by crowds of spectators and children. As Loula Long Combs wrote, "If you have never seen a horse-drawn fire engine, you 'aint seen nothing!"
