Event Details
Join Bill Heyworth for an exciting, hands-on program where you’ll build your own rock and mineral collection featuring 12 genuine Michigan specimens. As you assemble your collection, you’ll learn the basics of geology by identifying whether each sample is metamorphic, sedimentary, or igneous (“made by fire”).
You’ll examine specimens such as granite, basalt, and Mackinac brecciated limestone, and discover where they are found across the state. The program also includes an up-close look at fascinating Ice Age mammal fossils, including the mastodon, giant beaver, saber-toothed cat, and American lion.
Participants will take their collections home.
